Struck for only two years, this half won is an interesting coin as it was struck in Osaka Mint, Japan for just two years. Finding them in good condition can be a bit difficult and rather pricey. The price has been going up quite rapidly and I might as well finish what I can. Both are problematic coin as one is cleaned and the other is damaged but nevertheless, I'm happy with them.

I got one of those at a market in Seoul along with a whole sheet of world silver coins. All of them had been HARSHLY cleaned. I would have been really bothered except that I spent about $12 and got about 5 ounces of silver, all really clean!

Jays, when did you buy the coin? It must have been some time ago and those were the golden days as they were absurdly cheap.

The problem these days are that these half wons are heavily counterfeited and I am getting a bit hesitant to buy one.

I bought these in 2000, when silver was low. I have always been a bit worried about it being counterfeit, but since I bought it with such a weird group, I suspect it is not. These are the ones I got together. Sound like a group of counterfeits?

As you pointed out in this post, Korea stuff is going through the roof, why? Even Korean banknotes are selling for double catalog value!

Jays, can you post a picture of the 1 yang coin if possible? It can be quite scarce depending on the variety although I wouldn't be too surprised if it's a bunch of counterfeits.

I'm not too sure why the price has jacked up all of a sudden but I must say that Korean coins were way too under appreciated. Japanese coins will soon raise up slowly although Japanese gold coins have always been expensive.

Unfortunately, most of my stuff is packed away until my house sells and I buy a new one. In the current market, it could be a while.
