After looking at graded Eisenhower dollars on the PCGS website, I have a hard time deciding if I should grade a few of them due to some not looking like MS66 at all and others appearing as if they are graded low for the condition and strike. Thanks for any and all responses.

I'm seeing small blemishes on both sides of this one so it likely won't make 66. I hate to say it, but there seems to be a certain amount of chance involved when getting into the upper grades.

Are you getting them scored for resale? People playing that game often submit in bulk hoping that the best of the lot gets a really high score. If you want a 66 for your own collection, might save time and money just to buy one.

Rest in Peace

Two things. First, not showing the entire coins obverse makes any approximation of grade fruitless. Second, grading coins with high luster just from photos is no where near as reliable as first hand viewing.

Given that, what I see would be 65, with a long shot at 66.

As moxking pointed out, we'll need a better full obverse photo with less glare to give a full opinion Try using two lighting sources coming from different angles and make sure the camera or phone is stable and still without the flash on. Based on these photos alone, however, I'd say there's a small chance it could make MS-66 but a safe bet is MS-65.

Thanks for the information. This shot definitely shows spots and blemishes that the bright lighting was hiding.

I agree. If find grading from photos difficult, more so when they are uncirculated. This is why I do not participate much in the grading threads.

However, I always look at the Ikes.

I agree again. Based on the photo presented, I see it making 66 a gamble. Regardless, even at 65 it is a nice looking Ike.

Could be 65, but that's about it.

Easy 65, one of the nicer 40% Ikes I've seen. As the others have said, photos make a coin look far worse that it really is so grading from these is a crap shoot.

I've had a few (20) or so Ikes graded and that would be pushing 66 IMO. Nice Ike though!
