So,what's the collective's thoughts on ACG graded coins?Reason I'm asking is that I have a couple MS 65 graded coins that I hope are graded accurately.I have had them for about 8 years when I first started collecting. One in particular is a 1923 S Peace dollar,MS 65.This coin is beautiful, with no real dings and is totally frosty. It has a small die crack in the rays below the DOLLAR on the bottom right. If I wanted to crossover this coin,I think I should probably send it in as a raw coin,so there are no preconceived judgments...I also have a PCI graded Morgan,1886 MS 65 that is just stunning.Any ideas what it is worth?

Do you have any pics?
I don't know much about ACG, PCI would probably be considered a third tier TPG. If you send them in to PCGS, it,will be a given they will come back several points lower if they are truly a no problem coin. The same is likely for NGC. ANACS could be a slight more generous. I really like ANACS and have broken a few of their slabs to send in coins to PCGS and they have come back a point or two lower. PCI had a decent reputation several years ago, are now out of business, and are Dominion Grading if I am not mistaken. ACG is questionable. You cannot even rest assured if they have not slabbed a "problem coin" that PCGS or NGC would have body-bagged. ANACS will slab a coin with problem but this wil be denoted on the description

Hi Brewzz,

Welcome to the forum!

My experience with PCI suggests that in general PCGS or NGC will assign a grade about 1 point lower than the PCI grade. For example, I sent two PCI coins to NGC for crossover: an MS-66 Morgan got an MS-65, while an EF-40 Walker got a VF-35. I cracked out a PCI MS-64 "PQ" Liberty nickel and submitted it raw to PCGS and it got an MS-64. The real problem is that PCI slabs coins that may have surface problems that the other services consider unacceptable, such as cleaning or artificial toning.

The only 2 ACG coins I almost owned were an early gold piece slabbed as MS-62 that turned out to be harshly cleaned, and a bust quarter graded MS-63 that was also cleaned. I returned both to the sellers. I would only consider ACG coins if they were super bargain-priced or were low-risk items like bullion coins selling below bullion value.

Just my opinion!
