I have a 1943s Mercury dime that I have not noticed anything spectacular about that I posted for sale online with a few other silver coins, 17 coins total I believe, and within just a very few minutes there was a lot of interest shown in the Mercury dime. The people that were interested in it pretended to not even know what it was even though that was what threw a red flag for me because it was so obvious that they wanted to drive halfway across state to buy the "dime with the little girl on it" but knew what Barber dimes were lol. Anyway, one guy I asked to just be honest with me about it and I would give him half of what its worth. He then said it was because it was an "s" it would bring between $1250-$2250 at auction and said he dealt in coins and had a broker. I looked it up and there is nothing special or rare about the dime. Please tell me what it is I am overlooking because I still can't find ANYTHING. And I don't know if this means anything but he sent me a picture of his 1943s steel Wheat penny and said "this is mine, what do you think its worth? Its a barber". It was a Wheat penny, not a barber anything! Is there some type of hint I missed in that comment? PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME. Any info is appreciated. I am a total rookie at this.

There IS nothing rare or crazy about the coin. However there IS something crazy with that man's noggin. The coin shown probably is worth less than $8. A 1943 s steel penny, depending on condition, is worth between $0.10 and several hundred dollars. It would only go for several hundred if it was an incredible condition, say MS68 or something. Also,

To the forum, Jamie! What you are showing in your pix is a 1942S coin not 1943S, right? The coins worth the megabucks are the over-date coins of the 1942/1 Philadelphia mint and the 1942/1 Denver Mint. To my knowledge there IS NO 1942/1 San Fransico mint error. There is no special error for 1943 P-D-S coins. I can't tell anything special about your coin. If you have a pix of the sale coins, we may be able to figger why these dolts went buggy!

Thank you for replying. I am glad there is nothing I was overlooking on the coin. I was pretty thorough in my searching before posting them for sale to make sure I wasn't selling anything worth keeping. If I take my whole collection to be graded and appraised, can I count on them to be accurate? I have never dealt with anyone in this line of business and don't want to sell, just know what I have.

Oh my goodness...it is 1942, I have no idea why I put 1943 on the topic header...please forgive me. I will upload a pic if the other coins. They are just old silver and not in marvelous condition so I was just going to sell them for a little over melt value and call it a day. Its a 1912 and 1916 Barber dime, the 1942 Mercury dime, a 1962 Roosevelt dime, 7 silver Washington quarters that someone before me cleaned and look ridiculous, 2 90% half dollars, and 2 40% half dollars. And I had a few Eisenhower dollars in there that are not silver but I didn't want either so threw them in the lot.

That is certainly odd considering the coin and that dude you were communicating with.
