This is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone knows of reputable coin dealers in the Barcelona, Spain area. I am going to be spending a bit of time there in the near future and would love to get my hands on a few 8Rs while in Europe.
Also, does anyone know of any websites that detail laws of Spain relating to the export of coins? I'm just wondering since I do plan on bringing the coins I buy back to the States.

I can't help with the first part of your question, but may be able to shed some light on the second.

As the boys over at Odyssey Marine Exploration have discovered recently, Spain is one country you don't want to mess with when it comes to what they call "historical heritage".

Spain enacted new laws back in 1985 that basically forbade export of any "personal property" over 100 years old, declared to be "assets of cultural value", without a permit. Obtaining the permit apparently can take months, and requires payment of export fees.

I can't say for sure that coins are included in these "assets of cultural value", but I can see no reason why they wouldn't be. here's the Spanish Ministry of Culture website; most of the pages no their site has this English version, but unfortunately the database search for what is and is not of cultural value is in Spanish only. If your Spanish is better than mine, you can try interrogating it.

And in case you're tempted to indulge in some, er, "creative transportation", the penalty for being caught smuggling is confiscation of the smuggled goods and a fine three times the market value of the goods. Jail time is also possible for large-scale or high-value smuggling.

Now, a reputable coin dealer in Spain would know all this, and may well have all the paperwork ready to go for at least some of their inventory. So, the answer to the first part of your question becomes even more important.

(Edited for grammatical clarification)

G'day,
in 2006, I dealt with a seller on ebay "ramonmn6axx", whose address was given as Barcelona.
He sent me the wrong coin, which I returned. He was unable to retreive the right coin from wherever it ended up. He refunded all that I paid, plus my costs of the return postage. I didn't get what I wanted, but I was not out of pocket, and he was entirely reasonable at all times.
I would be happy to deal with him again, and would optimistic about a more satisfactory outcome.
I just checked: he's still active.
