There is so much crud out there regarding present day cast fakes of Dragon Dollars, it was refreshing for my coin buddy to send a pair of Two Jiao coins of 1929. One authentic and one contemporary counterfeit. The real deal true honest-to-goodness well made piece with real silver intended to deceive people in commerce back in the day instead of a non-silver cast base metal knock-off to fool tourists and eBayers. Maybe easy maybe not so easy to determine which is which by looking at photographs provided.

The human brain is programmed from early in life to identify differences in faces.
In this case, an obvious difference is in the eyes.

I don't know this series to pick to fake and true eyes.
Reference to Google Images may help.

Check the edge milling.

Right hand coin is 'mushier' in detail.

Ring tone difference is often a good diagnostic tool.
XRF testing is useful as well, but may not be readily available to the owner of the coin

Good point about the milled edges, here they are both with impacted hardened PVC gunk from many years of improper storage.

Well, there certainly do seem to be subtle differences between the two portraits. The shape of the ear on the one on the right (wider & slightly flattened at the top) inclines me to label it as the phony.

The denticles of the coin of the left coin does not look right, the details are also much more mushy than the one on the right.
But Chinese have a good way of counterfeiting coins so I'm not 100% sure, sometime the only difference between a well made counterfeit and the genuine example is the size (diameter).

On a counterfeit of Sun Yat Sen Dollar, the eyes are like dots, are the eyes of genuine examples designed with dots?

Am I making it more confusing?

Both coins are 23.5 by 1.6mm.
The genuine is 5.39g and the counterfeit is 4.48g
I estimate the genuine to be 71% silver and the counterfeit to be 4% silver or less.

The one on the left is the imposter I think. But really done well.

Correct TL and BR is the bogus coin.
TR and BL is the genuine.
