Are bronzed 1997D pennies common? I've found three of them so far. Was this a minting error in composition that toned over time? Did they come out like that?
Yellowish cents 'can' be the result of zinc cores melting in the bath of copper resulting in brass plating on subsequent planchets.
A number of environmental causes can change the color of cents post-mint, which is why most of the time the only brass coated cents that will generate any interest are those that are in higher MS grades.
