First off, excellent pics! It looks like a proof to me and also a Doubled Die of some type. Check here to see if there's a match to your coin: http://doubleddie.com/307701.html

I think it's a Doubled Die obverse. Check doubleddie.com to see if it matches any listed proof DDO's. :)

Although it may appear doubled it is only MD, what proves that is the VDB. Since that portion of die design is raised, it will make that "design" on the strike bounce.

I don't have much true DD experience but, I beg to differ. Here is a comparison of the 6 in the date between the OP's coin (left) and the "1962 1¢ Pr WWHO-003" on doubleddie.com. It may not be the same one but, it certainly shows the characteristics of a doubled die:

My gut says its a Doubled Die. Only problem is images are to zoomed in to get a clear grasp of which one. Images are good, but snapping single devices makes it tuff to match up as the minds eye is limited to one piece of the puzzle.
Three to four devices with the same resolution would help. Example the whole date all together. Also full obverse and reverse might help pick up any markers. Thanks, Doug.

you have great close up photos, but it would help to see larger chunks at a time.

Looks like a combination of DDO & MD.

I see a doubled working hub, not a doubled die.

 with spruett, as Wexler's designation of 1962 1¢ Pr WWHO-003 confirms.Not a true DD.

Yes, date is a doubled hub, the other letters are MD, notice how the effect is identical to SHAPES of devices, took a jump there.

There were several that year. They are nice to find, but hard to attribute. I don't feel all of them are listed and probably won't for sometime. I have many that are not listed yet. (I've not check lately to see if they are listed yet or not, just haven't got to them all yet. I found one 1963 proof cent that look similar, but not as strong as other 1962 DDO's
