Purchased this yesterday. Thoughts on grade and problems? TPG in 48. Thanks! Revised (1) to reflect Doubled Die Reverse ( DDR). Lettering doubled in "UNITED" and "AMERICA." Thanks The Nickel Guy! Revised (2) to reflect that this is the "Fancy 5" variety, not attributed in holder. Didn't notice the doubling in the lettering in the reverse. Thanks for pointing that out!

You really need to look at it closely. There is a lot of dirt, but minimal wear, so I agree: AU55.

At worst AU-58. I'm not seeing much circulation rub. The two color toning is throwing me off. This is one of those coins that's probably easy to grade in hand and a beast from photos only.

AU details scratched. The scratch is to the left of the 2. If said scratch is on the holder, AU-55 (though I am sure the TPG said AU-58).

I'd guess the doubling on the reverse is either Longacre's Doubling or Strike Doubling, as there are no known Two Cent coins with any doubling on the reverse from the hub.

Actually, there is one DDR in the 2c series, an 1866. Flynn has referred to it by variants of 1866-1-DDR. Fivaz And Stanton call it 1866-801 in the Cherrypicker's Guide. No one has ever reported a DDR on an 1865 that isn't strike or Machine Doubling. Those doublings don't add value. Don't pay extra for that.

I didn't know about the doubling before I bought it. Paid $80 including shipping. I like the coin, but Typecoin is right above and there is a scratch to the left of the "2" in the reverse. I don't think it is severe enough to details the coin and PCGS agreed. Even without the doubling, I really like the coin. Beautiful surfaces and sharp design details. Got it today and I expect to own it for a long time. Thanks for all your helpful comments!
