Hey guys I have this old coin in my collection but I cannot find a guide on how to grade it so I decided to seek your expertise.

Thanks Doug! Is there anything else I should know about the coin other than it's grade and the fact that it's old? I tried doing research but all I could find was that the nova Scotia government had them produced without the concent of the British government.

Any neat facts would be fun to know! It's my oldest coin.

This series is identified as:
Breton #871
Charlton NS 1D (1, 2, 3, 4).

Charlton and Courteau separate this series into 4 groupings dependent upon the length of the Ribbons below the Bow.

Charlton / Courteau 1D1 has a longer left ribbon;
Charlton / Courteau 1D2 has a longer right ribbon with an engrailed edge.
Charlton / Courteau 1D3 has a longer right ribbon with a plain edge.
Charlton / Courteau 1D4 had Ribbons of equal length.

This is the only Courteau variety having a longer left ribbon. Courteau 265.

Courteau identifies varieties 266, 267, 268, 269, 270, and 271 of the longer right ribbons.
Courteau identifies varieties 272, 273, 274, 275, and 276 as having ribbons of equal length.

The variations concern the size and placement of the Locks of Hair atop the Head (Below the OF)
and how the lower group of laurel leaves are attached to the Bow.

have fun

VG10 - despite heavily worn rims, still quite a lot of detail.

I would say F12-F15 with points off for the scrape in george's neck and also the cleaning (rainbow toning evident around the thistle)

Love these tokens. I have 20 semi-regal 1823/24/32 halfpennies plus 14 counterfeits, and 11 semi-regal one pennies and 12 counterfeits.
Here's some info from the Charlton 7th edition token catalogue about the 1/2p thistle tokens.
