Hi, I'm a 15 year old collector. I started collecting not to long ago and I collect U.S. coins, mainly pennies. I first started collecting awhile ago just trying to get all the State Quarters; I have the full set now.I came back to collecting cause old coins just fascinate me. I love wheat pennies. My favorite coin in my collection is my 1909 vdb no mint mark Wheat penny which I just got today. Any tips for a young collector?

read and study all you can. Ask any question you have, and there is probably a member that can give an answer.

. I'd add to Fuzzy's advice that you should go out and meet people involved in the hobby. Get friendly with your local coin shop and go to shows.

, JeBipp! You started out like many of the newer collectors. The Statehood Quarters got many young people into the hobby. I only started about 30 years before you did, but gotta love that '09 VDB! My advice, obtained after many stupid decisions, is quality over quantity. Decide what you really like, educate yourself and get the best coin at the best deal. Don't jump in too quickly trying to get high-dollar coins until you are confident in your grading and attribution skills. If you just have to have that expensive coin, make sure it has been authenticated by a reputable third party service. Enjoy!

Welcome!
Advice? Sure...
1. Start coin roll hunting (from banks not from the bay). CRH can be an extremely educational experience. Remember to look up varieties for the coin your unrolling.
2. Never believe something to good to be true (search forum for fakes like 1909 s VDBs, 1914Ds, and silver coins like Morgan's)
3. Stay optimistic but never 'hope to hard', always ask questions here!
4. Get some 2x2s ;)
