It's a Byzantine 12 nummi (Greek numerals IB). Can't read the name though.

Looks like Justinian to me (IVSTINI-ANVS, with a gap at the top). I'm not entirely sure, however.

First off, welcome.
The phrase "found in Egypt" is a bit ambiguous, so if I may ask, is that as in pulled out of the ground, or at a bazaar or in a shop? To my eye, it has the look of either a modern cast reproduction (typically made for the tourist trade) or something that's genuine but has been buried for a long time.

Quote: or something that's genuine but has been buried for a long time This plus badly cleaned was my impression. It could be a cast reproduction, I guess, though in that case I'd expect the portrait details to be better.

to the community The coin is Justinian I and is a 12 nummi as stated ealier. The first image is up side down though. The coin has a mint mark for Alexandria Egypt, so it would make sense that you found it there. The reference number for this coin is Sear 247. It has been harshly cleaned. This type is common so in this condition only worth a few dollars.

Not worth much money but if its one of the first coins you've found personally then that makes it very special (in my opinion).
