Hi,
I see what are probably marks that are the result of a die clash just to the left of the mouth. A larger picture would help, if possible. I am fairly sure that is what you are looking at though.

Yes a larger picture would help but to me its a die crack. I have not seen an 1988 with a die clash. but have seen a few Denver late 80s with the clash that Bill is talking about.

Here is what a clash overlay would look like.

There could be contact in the field in that location, but it looks different than the image posted. Only the fields are affected with the clash. Both dies hitting the outside part of the die which is the field. So where device outlines make marks on the field during a strike should be seen. A larger image might help if possible, even if the larger image is just of that area.
