Before this weekend, it had been 4 dimes in a cent roll, but then I came across these 6 dimes in a nickel roll. So, what is the greatest number of wrong denomination coins you have found in a roll?

Zero to date. As long as I don't find a Zincoln in a nickel roll, I'm good.

1 dime in a penny roll, 2 or 3 times over.

I think I'm at maybe 4 or 5 dimes in a penny roll.

I've heard horror stories of people putting stacks of pennies together in a clamp and grinding them down to fit in dime rolls

Given the number of possibilities, it is actually reassuring that such stories of fraud are few and far between. I don't want to give ideas, but a lot of demonetized foreign coins would fit in a lot of US sized rolls.

Wow!

I have only found one wrong coin in any roll. I guess I am lucky?

This topic will be interesting.

I once had a block of pennies (10 rolls) and I thought they appeared to be all missing coins, as they were much lower than a normal block of pennies. Well low and behold, the first roll I opened was a full roll of dimes! Then the next, the one after, etc etc....

That was a very nice day for me.

I've found the odd dime in a cent roll. But, the most common thing I've found in rolls isn't a coin. I've found several washers in nickel rolls from time to time. Funny thing is, those washers usually cost a nickel or more. So, the "thief" isn't gaining any advantage unless he has stumbled across a "washer hoard".

I picked up around 8 rolls of customer rolled small Dollars. Two of the rolls had one quarter each. So, they were 75 cents short. Unfortunately, the Quarters were not pre-1965!

Ouch!

Maybe those dollars found their way into half dollar rolls.

Found this in a nickel roll the other day - haven't looked it up yet but it isn't magnetic.

That's a whole lot of work to make a dollar - And if caught then have the FBI pay you a visit! They don't take defrauding a bank too lightly.

The "pennies in a dime roll" stories usually come from fast food restaurants and convenience shops, where customers are anonymous and it usually isn't worth police involvement over $4.50. Nasty stuff nonetheless.

I recall someone found such a "shorted" roll that was stuffed with 3 cent nickels! Can't find the thread now though...

Many years ago when I was in high school I was working at a store and cracked open a penny roll to find that the only pennies were the two on the ends. The rest were dimes. Why anyone would do that I have no idea but they did...

Had a business customer bring back a partially open roll of quarters to complain there was a nickel inside. So I swapped out for a different roll and sent her on her way. Opened up the rest of the original roll and there's a silver Washington (can't remember the year...51 or 52 maybe?) looking at me. Score!
