@Spence, 6 points-I'll be liberal! @finn "hostibus" means enemy, not battle. "commander of the army" is plausibly the general, so 8 points.
PS: "battle" in latin is "proelium" according to one on-line source

Got this in trade for melt. What would be the most valuable coin that you own if the obverse and reverse were in the same condition (choosing the side with the better grade)?

Congrats Arkie! Thought I had you for a minute, but tired Finn isn't good at Latin For points here, are we going by total dollar amount, or the % that the damage to one side knocks off? I have a few, but all are ancients that don't have a "price catalog" so to speak.

I guess I may have to sit this out, if you go total worth, or value, gold trumps copper or even silver. I HAD a coin that fit your description, sold it because it was worth something!

I can certainly post the most valuable coin I own, but the point scheme is sketchy and I'm not sure whether uneven wear is important or not.

So are the points based on the (hypothetical) value? One point per Dollar?

Wow, I had no idea this would be so problematic. I was not thinking of a point system, just hoping to see what kind of jewelry or other damaged coins out there we have that have a significant difference between the obverse and reverse. I guess it was my mistake. I would be happy to solicit votes when the contest is over, maybe 6 p.m. EDT Monday.
I also would welcome coins that you once owned, if you have the picture.

I think I have the perfect coin for this thread Judaea, Herod Antipas (Killed John the Baptist) AE full unit (dupondius) Tiberias mint Obverse worn or ground away Discussion & historical significance: http://goccf.com/t/296050Antipas is one of the more prominent figures in the execution of Jesus, but his coins are rare - thus in higher demand. A bunch of them hit the market in the past year, prices for intact specimens ranged from $280 - $2250. I would be lucky to get $100 from this coin; I won it in a lot of 20 coins for $35.

Here, it was worth one heck of a lot more before...which half? I give these out to people who's opinions I don't think are worth much....
