Well, I waited a whole day in case anyone could beat me, but...  I got a handful of these when liquidating an estate collection for a member of my father in law's church. They are all in old 2x2s marked $0.35 each; the LCS refused them so I kept them. I posted them here a couple years ago, and someone recalled getting these from those Gumball Machine toy dispensers from 1969 until the early 70s. |

@finn235, good work, and now I have a bit of history too. And interesting that your is also priced at 35 cents in an old 2x2, yet I am in eastern Canada and you are in the southern USA.
Although the winner is virtually certain, barring another match and the ID of the manufacturer, we will of course wait another day and give the tally.

Testing the waters here... how would we feel about reducing the length of each round to two days rather than three? I feel like most of the time nothing happens and the thread just sits until the winner is announced. Thoughts?

Thanks Oriole! I shall call this challenge...  Mini Me! The object is to post two coins of the same design but radically different size. My challenge: Japan 1 yen and 5 sen, a 1:20 ratio.   Points: 1 point for a 1:2 ratio 2 points for a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio 3 points for a 1:5 ratio 4 points for a 1:10 ratio 5 points for a 1:20 ratio 6 points for a 1:50 ratio 7 points for a 1:100 ratio 8 points for more than a 1:100 ratio (you'll be hard pressed to find one!) (You can round up if yours falls in between) The ratio can be explicit denomination, or by weight, if the coin doesn't spell that out. Tie breaker points: -1 if one side is different +1 if the designs are exactly the same, save for the indication of value (e.g. both have arrows or IGWT) +1 if the coins are from the same year +1 from the same mint +1 if the coins are made of the same material +1 if the coins are not from a decimal currency system (round to the closest point if so) I expect to see at least a few Seateds or Barbers, but don't forget world coins too! |
