What is going on with all the auctions of $25 bricks of 2008 pennies? They start at around $50 for a bank box of current year pennies! Sorry, but huh?!? Like I can't go to a bank and order these from the Fed Res for face value. What is wrong with people? I'd much rather have a brick of re-rolls, at least then I might get some copper. first, there is no guarantee that they are all 2008's. I have gotten these boxes before, and they are mixed with current, and other years. (unless I am missing something here.) Never saw that they were sold like this before.

Well, it's like people paying marked up prices for current coins offered by the U.S. Mint right now ! They don't know that you can go online and get their own. They'll wait until they see it appear in a magazine, online company, or on tv and "then" order it. And as far as ebay goes........I've often felt that people would bid on a dried poodle turd if they thought it was a good deal!...Ha Ha....

You can most certainly get solid bricks of the current year cents. You just have to get lucky. Last year, when I was trying to get mixed roll cents for THE Cent Project, every bank I went to rarely had mixed rolls, but solid 2007D rolls, and one bank still had left over 2006D. I auctioned them off on ebay with 1 cent no reserve starts and very low shipping and they ended BELOW face value, so I lost a lot of money on them. So the folks who place a double face value start on them are right to do so. After the fees, shipping, etc, you maybe will make $5-10. Also, factor in that folks in one part of the country can only get the D and can't get the P mint marks except by buying them on ebay.

I have sold 31 boxes of 2008D pennies on ebay for and average of $77.00. My profit after fees and shipping was $47 per box. That was a $1,400 profit for 2 4 weeks of work. To those who say it is scamming or hustling I do not set the prices for these boxes, the buyers do. I was providing a service for the buyers who wanted the new pennies at any cost. I have seen some boxes go for over $100.

One auction, the seller is claiming that this is the last year for the penny! He says you better stock up because 2008 pennies will be hoarded, therefore, unavailable. He says there is a bill before congress that will do away with pennies. What a dope. A bill is a LONG way from being law. This has been attempted several times in the past, ending with failed bills. Jewelcard, PT Barnum said "There is a $ucker born every minute!"... But that don't make it right.

I can understand someone paying a small premium for delivery on a 2008 box but the link above for 3X face value IS nuts. Now if it was $25 face in wheaties..........

Ill tell ya ebay is a joke when it comes to some sellers. They think people are stupid enough to bid on stuff like that. Unfortunately there are alot of stupid idiots out there. Speaking of 2008 pennies I found alot of pennies with a die scratch on em. At first I thought it was nothing until I came across others with the same markings.

go to a bank and ask them for a box of your choice. If they wont help you go to a different bank till one helps you.

i will hoard the 2009 one they will be made like the 1909 pennies.the 2008 pennies are just a hip that some people get into because that will be the last year of the lincoln memoral back.look what happen to the 1958 pennies the only thing that make them good is that they are wheat backs.i just get mine from change and not waste my time in buying boxes
