Super pick up!

Here is the best free reference I know of for the type:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/n...p?key=siglos

It looks like series IIIa based on the weight, but there is fairly even pitting over the coin; it could be IIIb with a fair bit of silver lost to the environment or cleaning. Regardless, super details and you got a great price! I have never seen one with a full image of the king go so cheap before!

Great pick-up! I spent a bit more for mine.

I cannot tell clearly from the picture, but I do not see the two pellets that distinguish type IIIa. Given the oversized eye I am inclined to call it type IIIb (early).

Odd that you would come across one with a grainy outer surface just now. Just a couple of weeks earlier I picked up types 1 and 2 with similar surfacing from another European house, also at bargain prices. I wonder if someone over there is clearing things out.

They aren't great but they are from the earlier types, if you care to see them.
