1892-S Morgan Graded EF-40 By ICG - What Do You Think?

I came across this 1892-S Morgan on ebay that is in an ICG EF-40 slab. It certainly looks like a generous grade to me, especially when I compared it with Photograde.

It's a $300+ coin in EF-40, but sold for only $100, so I would guess potential bidders, me included, were leary of it. I have bought some very nice, accurately graded coins in ICG holders, but this one doesn't look right to me.

What do you think?

Plenty of wear and no luster. I'd say closer to VF20, which would put it in line with the price.

There are plenty of nice, accurately graded coins in ICG holders.

This ain't one of them.

Is it me or am I seeing faint hairlines on the obverse around 3 o'clock? Or is it on the holder. It's certianly not an xf, I'd rate it a vf30 tops and that's being really generous

I don't know about the grade but I love the look of it. $100 seems like a fair price and I'm glad the collecting market was smart enough to correct for the grading disparity.

looks like it's been worked on @3-4 o clock on the obverse. The pink toing doesn't look natural. I will agree with the vf-20 grade to make things simple.

If ICG had photograde on their website would this be the image for an EF40 Morgan? Let's hope not...

No way it's XF40. Would barely make VF20-25. I'd say not bad for $100.
