I always thought the athens owls were the most attractive ancient coins. If you have one please share! Heres mine. Bought it few years ago, I thought athena was pretty and the owl was very sharp. I couldnt resist.

I actually like the New Athens tetradrachms better. But I wouldn't turn down the old style.

Fantastic coin, Steviegetz. Only owl I ever owned was a New Style tet with a neat little cicada in the reverse left field. Sold it off in 2010, though...

The old style Owl actually feels and looks like piece of MONEY in your hands. Very tactile.

A specimen like this one is on my bucket list. Fantastic, beautiful coin!
Personal taste, but I have never been a big fan of the new style Athens tets. Old style is, IMO, the epitome of Greek (pre-Hellenistic) coinage, although the Corinth stater might be a close second.

I love these, its nice to have a piece of history in your hand (not quite as nice to have a slab of plastic...) I have an old and a new, I like the old type better...also I agree the Corinth stater is a fantastic coin. My archaic style one isn't quite as good as yours My new style one My Corinth stater has a bit of smoothing but still a decent coin I think.

One particularly fascinating thing about thr Athens tet (at least to me) are the imitations they inspired across the ancient world. A lot of them are pretty good copies, but these win the most "cool" points in my book: https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=109803(Not mine so I don't want to holink to give the wrong idea) Egyptian-made Athens tetradrachm imitation, bearing a Demotic legend in the name of Artaxerxes III.
