Both companies gave it the same grade. I'll post the results in a couple of days. Apologies in advance if the picture quality is less than optimal. Thanks for looking. UPDATE: I've posted better pictures of the coin farther down the page. Edited by Peter4805 08/20/2017 11:38 am

Looks like it was subject to an old dipping/cleaning to me. I think that it might be the lighting, so don't take my word for it.

I'd say EF-40 to EF-45. It doesn't appear to be cleaned to me.

Quote: Looks like it was subject to an old dipping/cleaning to me. I think that it might be the lighting, A lot of the detail here makes it look like it was scanned. The obverse face/cheek and fields makes it look like a watercolour painting.. But I'll still call it an MS 60 or 62

ICCS tends to be a bit easier on the Victorian 50c series, just because they are difficult to find nice ones in mint state condition. These coins were not often fully struck, so I would attribute a slightly weak strike to what I am seeing in the highest elements. These are expensive coins, and PCGS is a little more lenient with coins that have had a history of dipping, as this one appears to be. It would be nice to see the rim, but it would not surprise me in the least, to see this one come in at MS-63, or better...

AU58 I think the disturbance DEVLEC notes on the cheek is actually wear.

I'm more inclined to agree with an AU55-58 grade, very nice coin. Is there doubling in the "0" of the denomination?
Cheers, Bill

Good day everyone and thanks for your input. Devlec, my photographic skills are sorely lacking. I compared the photos of the coin that I took with ones that the seller had posted. Theirs were much superior to mine so I am re-posting them here. I don't usually like to do that part way through a thread but I owe the participants here the most accurate photos available. Hounddog Bill, yes there is a slight doubling on the zero. It shows better when the coin is held at a slight angle.
