I don't believe it is an Error.on your last picture the metal has been pushed and it does look like a scratch.,going back to the pictures the dent above the D of GOD aligns with the rest of the damage on the coin plus the circular damage on the center of Memorial building is indicative of a kind of vice damage.
by the way

Any idea what would cause this? On the back of the coin there is an impression of a round object.

@cc, there is a lot of interesting stuff going on with this coin. There are several dark spots. These are corrosion and do not add value. The round impression on the rev looks like PMD also and could come from this coin being gripped by something hard and perhaps being spun. The stuff around Lincoln's portrait is more interesting and extends beyond my knowledge of this stuff. Delamination? Scratches? I dunno.

But it is great fun to try to imagine how Little Johnnie in his Garage created this monster!

That indention on reverse has pushed through to the front. The two vertical lines opposite this push shows where it was held, gap in center. By the color showing on reverse, this is can 82LD zinc cent the black "lines" are split copper plating with core exposed to rot.

See, EASY!

Thank you everyone. That includes Little Johnnie who for reasons unknown appears to enjoy swashing objects. Extremely creepy

I think Crazyb0 knows way too much about Little Johnnie.
