There isn't much gold to add value. Canada RCM has a nice $20 "bat" coin for 2017 for sale that looks very cool, cost under $100. Go take a look! John1

Another fringe item sucking money away from actual numismatic coins and tokens. It's your money to spend as you please, but wouldn't you rather have a nice classic coin in decent condition for the same money?

Novelty strikes do not carry much premium nor will they go up in value and have a very limited buyer's market, I would rather invest the money on the authentic coins.

These should be better described as "art" rather than coins. These coatings/ platings are very thin. Regardless of how rare the metal is, there cannot be more than a few milligrams in total. So it is safe to say that the precious metal value is less than $1. So most of the price is due to the cost of making the "art". Unless you think that the artistic value is $20 or more, there will be no sales. I doubt that there is a huge demand for such novelities. Coin collectors want coins, and art collectors want art.

Because it's GARBAGE?
If you take a commode and gold plate it outside the factory, it's still a commode right?
If you take a common date coin and gold plate it after the mint, it's damaged and numismatically worth NOTHING.

Because they don't exist. This is just a regular cent that someone has taken after it left the mint and plating it with a few cents worth of Ruthenium and gold. This is an alteration that destroys the numismatic value. So what it now is is a cull Indian Head cent, worth maybe 50 cents with maybe 5 cents worth of Ruthenium and gold on it that would cost more then 5 cents to recover. Total value as a novelty maybe a dollar. And that would be if it looked as nice as the one in the ad. He stresses "full LIBERTY" which means you will get a coin in VG to Fine. He even says VG to Fine. So at $19 for an altered coin, he is making a killing. (if he sells any.)

Samlerhuset did the same in Norway with a few 'older' coins, mostly low-end, high-mintage and thus numismatically non-interesting samples of already cheap coins and plated them with silver and gold, in a way that the actual detail on the coin looks much higher than it actually is. They sold them for about 10 to 20 times their numismatic and metal value combined, I think, and now you just find them in the junk bins at local coin shops. The same goes for the Shell 5 cent coin from The Netherlands. Shell, the oil company, decided to have a bunch of Dutch 5 cent coins gold plated to give as presents to loyal customers. I think that was in the 1970s. I've picked some of them out of the junk bins here. They go for $5 per pound or $0.25 each.
Let that be a warning.

I like the hologram they put on the ASE as I found one recently in a junk bin at a LCS, grabbed it up and put it in a lighted area in my apt. They do ruthenium on all different coinage, it's just faddish.
