Somehow I suspect a trick question... or answer

No trick at all. I bought these two this week from my LCS, and noticed that they were the same grade. I felt that it would add complexity to a GTG thread to have to pick a grade that matched two coins. Is one overgraded? One undergraded? or are both true?....
It is that simple. From the above responses I sense that my assumption was true.....
Rest in Peace

Have to guess 65. Washington should be 64, Mercury a 66 FSB.

Doesn't make any sense, but I'll go with 64.

Thank you to all of those who participated.
The two coins are graded MS66.
I feel that the dime is accurate, though I would have thought it would make FSB.
The quarter, I will consider it a gift.

My guess was close ( Like Cleveland is close to Akron close ).
I actually thought it was a trick question, thinking the "slider" guys grading them were having a bad day.

I actually got it right this time except it was because I over-graded to be unique. The quarter really had me thinking it was a lower grade.

Little late...

My first thought was MS65, but just read MS66.

I like the Merc!

I just had a discussion with a major coin professional about AU58 coins. I remember one point he made about some AU58 coins looking better than MS63 and MS64 coins and I guess that thinking has stuck in my head.
I myself am a fan of nice AU58 coins. I think a lot of them are bargains.
I saw some areas on the front of Libertys wing, the hair and neck that had me think maybe this one was in and out of a pants pocket a couple of times. It could be the reflection in the holder too that did that.

The Washington quarter just doesn't have the eye appeal of a MS66 but I don't see any wear. Those darks spots in the field, that dark stuff at the base of the 1 in the date were obviously overlooked.
I bet that the quarter looks a lot better in hand tho than the excellent pictures.
Both are great coins to have. Thanks for the exercise. It was fun.

Thanks TNG. All of your points taken. I considered my pictures of the dime to be superior to those from NGC, which can be seen here. https://www.NGCcoin.com/certlookup/4295309-018/66/
