While hunting through our office soda fund change, I came across a 2017 dime that was more of a challenge to read the date than others. On closer inspection, it looks like it's either a weak strike or more likely a ' Greaser' (did I get that right?) Anyway, here's pics of the weak one and a 'normal' dime. Thoughts?

I'll go with Struck Through Grease. "In God We Trust" is slightly weak and the LI from Liberty is weak but the bust of Roosevelt stays sharp. Ya figure if the die was over polished the bust should have caught some of that polishing too!! ?

To add to the fun, once I found the first one, there were three more with weakness in the date area. I keyed in on the 'missing' initials JS. All four have this anomaly. Of course this was at the end of my search after going through a small coffee can sized jar. Now I'm wondering if I should go through the coins again...

I think it's the lighting Mark. See the date is visible in one picture then when OP tilts it, it disappears. This makes me think over polished. Then of course the new revelation :D

Strange now that you mention it. The one photo doesn't even seem to show a mint mark either.

Redifin, not tilted, just zoomed in with a macro lens clip on my phone. I'm using a Galaxy 6s for the pictures. The lighting is 2 Jansjo lights from Ikea. I'm moving them around trying to get the best shots. A bit of a challenge given the limited setup. I'll see if I can get better shots in the daylight...

As others, I would guess an over-polished die.

I think it is mostly a LDS and a little grease. I recommend using only one light source.

An over polished die would show the devices as smaller. (with the bottom of the devices polished off, the device tapers towards the top, so they would appear smaller)
On a grease will example, then the devices would look wider and shorter in height. The third image looks like the grease almost filled the die on the 2. So I'm with John1 on this one. A Struck Through Grease error.
Rest in Peace

I'd be camping on the grease side of the river. Kinda messy though.
