Does anyone have a coin archives account? I don't do enough buying to justify the cost, but I need the sales figures for a coin I'm interested in.

My holy grail is the Diva Julia Domna denarius. I need to know whether the master plan I'm developing is feasible, and to do that I need past sales info.

Mods: Sorry if this is inappropriate. I will delete if requested.

I don't know of many people that can justify the cost, it's way too much.

I hope the response on sales will be posted here.

jsk, I take it you have now bid on the Domna piece?

Ron, which cost were you saying was too much, a Coin Archives subscription or the price of a Diva Domna denarius?

The cost of the subscription to Coin Archives. The last time I checked it was more than $600 a year.

Munzeo is always free....

http://munzeo.com/julia-domna-denarius/sort-0

Now acsearch cost like $160 for 2 years but I see coin archives as free. You see the prices in the link below correct after the upcoming auctions?

Coin archives is free, but coin archives pro is not. I believe the OP was asking about coin archives pro.

That's correct. The problem is the Diva Julia Domna hasn't had any recent sales, so it's not showing up in the free search which only shows past year or so.

I can't bid on something this expensive without having prior data, and I thought the pro returned results but hid the values. Not sure where I saw that though.

Can't get Munzeo to return anything. I'll have to fiddle with it.

Thanks for the help!

Wow, I never thought about needing more but I just sell and create references. Still how much more updated and extensive is the higher version? I just used the reference below for a listing and it is March 17.... Which I was pretty happy about. Is it that much better?

@jskirwin

You could try acsearch. You will need a paid subscription, but the cost is much less than coin archives pro. Search for your coin first on acsearch. If you find examples then you can ask yourself if you want a subscription. I have one and use it very frequently.

Thanks Germanicus, for taking the trouble to put all that up. Now we have more perspective on the coin in question.

That link, Baltas, is to an earlier offering of exactly the same coin as is being offered now, also by CNG. The fact that it "realized" $4500 in January in Triton XX and here it is again on the block in the same hands suggests to me that the buyer did not come through. Since the description did not change, it is anybody's guess as to what happened. If that buyer was responsible for the elevated bidding in January and in 2013 then there is still at least one high flyer out there who will have a bit less competition if the defauted buyer is locked out. But considering overall grade, with good competition this example should do pretty well. I'm guessing it will sell in the vicinity of $3200+.

It also appears to me that the coin of Oct 2007 is the same coin as May 2016, which dropped to "hard times" levels despite a stronger economy.

Thanks Antwerpen2306. I'd gladly pay 500 euro for that specimen.

Looks like we're up to $2750 on the current coin. Completely over my limit now.

I have been trying to figure out if you were bidding against me, and assumed that you were the high bidder just now. Apparently you have not bid at all? No offense, I don't want to screw things up for you, but if you're not going to bid I need to know that. You can PM me if you prefer, just to let me know if you do NOT plan to bid.

Perhaps I need to explain that since there seems to be a misunderstanding. From the first I have only intended to bid if you are NOT. I put down the first bid on the item, and in short order that was exceeded by a second bidder. Since I was not sure that it was you I queried this list. No reply. So I increased my bid, and within a couple of hours was again topped by that same bidder. I resolved to go no further until I determined that it was you (or your agent) bidding against me. I have asked. More than that I cannot do. But if you are bidding I need to know when to back off (at the risk of being accused of bidder collusion). However, from this point I will speak of it no more. Your call.
