This has a ton of liquid luster under the slight toning. But I'm still seeing the absolute smallest rub at both centers indicative of improper handling rather than circulation. So ive gotta stay at 58.

I just upgraded my own Boone to a bright white 66 for $188 including vig from Stacks. I don't know what your budget might be, but please consider TPG MS.

Obverse looks AU58 with a little rub on the collar and back of hair, Rev looks like MS63 unless we have something going on with the legs. It's a great looking coin! I'd value it at MS62 ish?

and I don't know much about grading, I participate in these
to learn from what others say.

@moxking - I completely understand what you're saying, but I think I'm going to build 2 sets - one slabbed and one raw for an album. My total on this was a hair over 1/3 of your 66. For the album set, I'm trying to stay hi-AU/lo-MS. For the slabbed, I'm going to try for 65 or better, except for the few that are crazy expensive in that grade (Hawaiian/Spanish Trail/Lafayette, etc.). Those I'll be happy with 60-63 (or close).

Beefed. There are two reasons I harp on TPG CSC sets.

The first is that if there is ever a need for immediate cash you can sell TPG CSC in a heartbeat. You get beat to death if you need to sell raw fast.

Second, if you compare the number of PCGS and NGC combined encapsulation, even forgetting ANACS or others, you will find some issues that have 50%+ of the mintage already slabbed.

If you look at the Hawaiian, one of the biggies if you want MS, and compare what is for sale at this moment, the first thing you will notice is all the crappie looking cleaned there are out there.

The tougher the issue, the more likely it has a problem and isn't already in a TPG. Buy 10 raw Lafayette and send them in. Ill bet 8 or 9 will come back cleaned.

The higher the value, the wiser it is to have TPG.
