Hello from Arizona! I am a collector/dealer. I recently decided to sell some coins that I inherited/collected. This isn't a high end collection. It consists mainly of coins of the world, some older, some silver or partial silver & all circulated with the exception of some newer proof sets. My first question is regarding a civil war union token/coin. I presume this was intentionally altered by someone, but wanted to first make certain it isn't an indent/misstrike.

I moved your post to the appropriate section for the proper attention.

I am pretty sure that is PMD. The token probably would not have made it through the minting process with that damage.

It looks like it fell into the hands of the enemy. Too bad. No harm in asking, though.

Hope to see you around.

to the CCF

Looks like PMD for this Civil War survivor. I've been collecting, studying and writing about Civil War tokens since 1964. Love the variety and history that's attached to this series.

Yours is a common variety that's, IMHO, worth but a buck or two. That said, pieces like this can and do fetch beyond their realistic value when placed in antique auctions. Dealers and collectors, unfamiliar with the series at large, will often pay more than a knowledgeable collector. "Exoguys law" comes into play: "The less folks know, the more they tend to pay." Somebody else may have said that, too ....
Rest in Peace

Its been injured. But it is civil war era, which is neat. Not valuable. A buck or two.
