Another late night score (?), listed as a 1925, for $15 + $3 shipping. Looks XF to me, maybe even AU50, 1925-S is notorious for terrible strikes. Some toning on the reverse, and a hit on the eagle's lower feathers. Has a die crack on the obverse running through the neck. CCF thoughts on a grade? I am not going to complain too much for $15, VF-XF-AU or otherwise. It fills a Dansco hole, too. Cropped seller pictures (difficult, since he took them at an angle.) I'm terrible at grading these things :P It's better than the two-cent piece, though, for sure.

It might make 35, but I'm not a fan of the reverse. Good price for a hole filler is about it.

Might try a 50/50 on it and see what happens. Of course, I could do better. I could always go out and buy one in MS63. But in this case, I bought this coin on price. Why? Because I'm in it for 15 bucks, and if it straight grades VF35, I can sell it for $30 later and double my money.

I don't think you're far off on technical merit anyway. It most certainly grades $15.

Gotta agree with Ddave on this one. Grades about $15 lol. I see everything from VF25 to AU50 posted, so I think I'll use the price grade. :)

Well, wear patterns are wear patterns and by low XF I expect the leaves to be worn flat and the lower tailfeathers to be starting to disappear. The only place this coin looks less than XF is in the areas where weak strike manifests.
The difference may lie in grading compared to a "perfect" coin, and grading compared to what the coin looked like when it left the Mint. Given the former, this one left the Mint at low AU.
