I agree with CrazyBo, not a vise job. Dirty LMC left residue which resulted in the image now possibly being permanently toned into the surface.

That's pretty interesting looking. I agree it's not a "vise-job" or penny smashing. There is no apparent damage to the shield. Somehow, an LMC reverse that mostly overlapped the LSC reverse left its image.

I don't know exactly how but, it did. Maybe it involved glue or residue that caused uneven toning and was later removed?
