Found a strange looking Wheat cent that appears to have some sort of strike error. Thoughts?

Looks like PMD to me. Keep searching, though, and I am sure you will encounter something nice!

Search the forum for encased coin. Should find many examples showing this type of damage after a coin is removed from its encasement.

Pending the type of encasement it's often recommended to leave them encased than remove them as it exposes the damage done to the coins edge and rim area. Thanks, Doug.

I always called this 'holder damage'...at any rate I agree with the above stated PMD

It's a Wheat cent that used to been case at one point. That's why it looks like this. No extra value except for being a Wheat cent. But keep up the good searching. :)

So is there or isn't there any extra value

Mark, what I meant to say was there's no value for the supposed "error" on the coin. But it carries a little premium do to being a Wheat cent. Worth 2-3 cents.

I'm not sure, damaged as it is, that it has any premium at all.

Coinfrog: put it in a bag and sell them for 2c apiece to a flea market, they turn em around at 3-4c!
