This is called split plate doubling. The copper was/split allowing air to corrupt the zinc, forms blisters(plating bubbles)

Yes, and very common on the copper plated zinc cents.

Bad Zinc Rot. Very common and typical for the Zinc cents. Worth 1 cent, but keep looking. :)

Have you weighed this coin? May be copper. But, it certainly does look like corroded zinc.
