@flowrush, first welcome to CCF. Second that coin, while pretty worn looks French to me, most likely from the reign of Napoleon III.

I agree. It's French but I don't have my books handy to narrow it further.

French 5 centime ca 1850-1870. Napoleon III. Real beard so far as I know. Here's a slightly better one. http://www.cgb.fr/cinq-centimes-nap...75285,a.htmlIf you paid anything for it you paid too much. The other Napoleon's bust is on silver and gold coins. Unless they are very worn or damaged they're expensive.

Nice work! You guys are awesome for solving so quickly and thanks for the introduction @Spence and the additional info @thq. I thought fake beard because almost seemed like a pharoe's wrapped beard. Was a bit off haha.
It was given to me by a good friend about 20 years ago who found it on a mountain somewhere. It's more sentimental. Definitely quite worn and thin around the edges.

It's unfortunate that I didn't come across this thread earlier. Napoleon III is recognizable in even lower grades - and I helped identify this coin, compared to which yours looks mint state In hand even the date and mintmark might be readable (I can't figure out either from the photo though).

flowrush, you may have a "lowball" coin there, which some people like to collect.
I could have used one of those King Tut beards in grade school. I could have leaned on it and got away with sleeping through history class.
