Hello,
I was just curious if there was a way to see if there are any known examples of certain national bank notes. Specifically looking for banks established in Llano, Tx.
These banks include: First National Bank of Llano - Charter 4316 Iron City National Bank of Llano - Charter 4371 Llano National Bank - Charter 5853 Home National Bank of Llano - Charter 7119
Just finished reading a 70 year old book about the history of the town and it gave me all of the banks, charter dates and numbers, but I have yet to find an example to see what they looked like. I've already checked past Heritage auctions but didn't have any luck.
If anyone has access to this information or could point me in what direction to look, I'd be appreciative!

My old Kelly book shows one known large note each from #7119, #4371 and #5853. The other bank (#4316) only had 150$ outstanding in 1916 and a survivor would be a true miracle. That bank existed for less than 4 years and went into receivership in 1894.
I'd venture to guess that all the known Llano notes are in very tight hands!
If any new notes were to surface I'd bet on #7119 as it had $14,500 still outstanding when the bank closed in 1923.

Charter 4371: 2 $10 1880 Brown Backs
Charter 5853: 1 $10 1880 Brown Back

Ch# 4371 one of the notes is in the Philpott/Moody holdings and has been off the market since.
Ch# 5853 the only reported note is in the previously mentioned Philpott/Moody collection.

Wow, thanks everyone. I didn't think anyone would be able to provide so much information! That's why I'm glad to be on this forum. This might sound stupid, but what exactly is the Philpott/Moody collection? I did some research but only past heritage auction records come up. I'm assuming that it must have been a huge collection at one time. Any ideas where I might be able to find some more information on it? Thank again for all of your help. Guess I'll be waiting a lifetime for one of these to pop up, then I might have to mortgage my house to afford it! HA

William Philpott was a collector from Texas and the secretary of the Texas Bankers' Association which gave him an inside track to acquire information and banknotes. This article by Huntoon back in 2009 talks more about him http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=6624W. L. Moody Jr. founded the City National Bank of Galveston. His daughter, Mary purchased the Philpott collection intact. I can't find a source now but I believe her father had signed some of the notes in the collection. The collection is in the possession/care of the Moody Foundation.
