My coin interest is Eisenhower dollars ~~ IKEs There was a time I was able to get $1,000 RED RES BANK BAGS. But no more My collection was static as I did not want to pay more the face. Then I was motivated to do something different, as my yard keeper doubled my rates. I offered him IKEs at 1/2 of his normal rate. He agreed. I had only MS-62 and up in my tiny hoard. (MS-62 in my opinion) I took a chance and bought a lot of 100 ikes, at more than face. Working out well for me. With these new IKEs coming in, I am able to BARTER out going coins, and at tye same time grow my collection off the disinter-mediation NET results. Pay OVER face, then BARTER over the premium I paid for them. In the first 300 IKEs I bought over face, I have 65-66 added to my keepers I figure they are free and I consider them MS65-ish

The primary advantage to monopolizing a single type is that you get to know the series in great depth.
The disadvantage for many would be trying to find new ways to keep the collection going without becoming bored.
It sounds like you've discovered a novel alternative for keeping your purchase prices as close as possible to face value while continuing to find keepers.
Great idea.

Yes, in the last 5-6 years my tiny hoard is bought at under face, when I factor in BARTER, ebay sales, and the Morgan, Peace dollars & ASEs found in the FED RES BAGs I could once get. The latest biggy, is a grease stuck IKE I have up on ebay. It was bought off the net, at over face.

Some of your nicer Ikes, or how you display them.
Please remember to crop out the background.
I'd also love to hear your opinions on toughest dates/mm to find at 65 or better.

I'd also love to hear your opinions on toughest dates/mm to find at 65 or better. Mostly I put my IKEs in coin-safe tubes. Will try to get some PICs up, or refer to ebay "stuff" up on ebayI only have RAW coins IMO the 1971 and 1972 dates, are at the bottom because it was hard to strike

Somewhat off topic but also the same, I love when I have coins that I no longer need or want and I can sell those to purchase newer ones. And because most my coins are bought as a good deal, when I sell I am able to buy more than I did before so I slowly get a better collection. Nice on the Ikes!

This morning, I did use my collection to grow my collection I had a person come to house for a small issue. I gave him the choice of a check for $26 (OR) 18 IKEs. He took the IKEs. Net results I sold the coins at $1.44. I gained $8.00 to buy more IKEs

UP-DATE Doing well on the "barter" form of buying at more than face, and then working each small little deal. Then I have some (3-4) coins worthy of ebay them. Looked again at the best of the 65-66 coins I considered keepers. Happy to say I own a 1972 (P) type two. My opinion of condition is AU - UNCH Going to try and ebay it, to pay for all the premium I paid for the first 300 IKEs. I now have 200 of his coins now. The next 100 will be here Saturday, or Monday. Wish I could show a PIC. I'm to old, dumb, unteachable to do it

Well, just ruined those enders in the above pix! NEVER, NEVER, EVER, use fingers to handle coins by their faces...ALWAYS handle by the edges...these TV commercials are a very bad Joke handling Gold and Silver coins that way! Any pix are good and will give our JBuck a real thrill! Like Mox said tho, use the Optimizer to "crop" which cuts out the background and increases the resolution making pix better like this: Ever come across any blank planchets from those old bags? Just curious.

Quote: maybe I am to old to be teachable. Don't worry. According to some of my friends I walked straight out of the 18th century, and even I can still learn digital things... Just let us know what you need help with after reading the tutorials, we're usually very happy to help! And on topic: nice finds with the rim of the Ike! I really wonder why jbuck hasn't replied to this thread yet. He has a thing for ikes like you have.
