The lines are too sharp to be a random grease filled area. I'd say someone did that to the coin for some reason before it was plated.

For reasons I do not understand about pictures, you can not see any "sharp" lines looking at it even under a loop. I shot PICs looking for peg legs. That way I can see better IMO, the coin is not plated. BTW, the field is full of grease rash. Check his lower neck grease rash. The reverse is grease shot on the field, but nothing on the object. Thanks for your opinion.

Then explain why the coin is so pitted but yet it shines like the sun! (Highly polished then?)

Grease would have prevented the strike. Note leaving it indented. Looks damaged to me.

I agree, usually devices on the coin after being struck through a Grease Filled Die loose details and sharpness, these circular lines are indicative of the post mint damage.

Looks to me like those marks are exactly in the center (or close to it) which would indicate something intentional.

Some type of coin rolling machine, perhaps? I can't think of a single minting process that would result in all of those circles within circles at the center of the coin.
At least that's what the photos look like.

I thought he was talking about the slightly recessed area from the jaw line down to that line on Ike's neck?

All opinions are welcomed I have it on ebay, and I can make adjustments in price and description to better fit the coin Looking at it in person shows NO giant deformations. Even under a loop, almost invisible. Thanks to all

More than a century ago, (High School), I had one semester of debate. If I can remember we were given the "QUESTION" in advance, then we had an allotted amount of time to bone up on the subject.
1. you see the camera pictures. They are as you see
2. you see the coin in person ~~ and what you see is small tiny (almost invisible) stress(?) fractures. Seemingly at the molicuelural level.
Anyone wishing to take the position of moderator?
Anyone wishing to take "prove" side?
Anyone willing to take the "other" side?

If a drop or speck of H2O got on a first strike, would it turn to steam, and stress the surface?
Looking at the coin in person. I could see zero anything.
I was looking for peg legs.
