Does anyone know anything about these?

My first impression is that it is cleaned because of the color.
Which if it is, brings down the value of it considerably. It looks to have been or is in "Fine" condition.
It appears to be a genuine US 1848 Braided Hair Large Cent and without clearer images it is hard to say the value. Even one in original uncleaned state in this grade range is usually priced right between $25 and $35.
Cleaned, cut that range right in half, I would say.

You can find some useful links to the left side of most every page on CCF. In this case I refer you to US Coin Facts and US Coin Grading under the Red Banner US Coins and Currency

Agree it appears cleaned in a sort of low VF grade, but sharper pics would help.

Yes, 1848 Braided Hair Large Cent. Looks cleaned with Fine details. Maybe a $10 coin or so.

Thank you for the response. No, he has owned this for over 50 years and has never been cleaned being he knows never to clean a coin. All his coins were very well taken care of. I will get better pics later today and resubmit the pictures.

OK he hasn't cleaned it in the past 50 years, but the coin is over 160 years old so that leaves 110 years in which it could have been cleaned by someone else. Not saying it HAS been cleaned because the image is too "off" to be able to say anything really about the color or surfaces. (I don't trust images for such determinations unless they are blatantly obvious.)

True.... this is my brother's coin which he has coins that I was in awe about this past weekend while visiting him. We didn't get very good pictures and he has his coins with him, so I'm waiting for him to send me some better pictures
Hopefully will be helpful.

Looking at what he had made my collection look like nothing. So we snapped a few quick pictures for the experts to shed some light if possible . Hopefully I'll get better picturers.

Very nice coin....Could maybe the 1848 one cent been cleaned prior to your brother owning it?
