If you rotate the rev. 180 degrees, you get the bottom of a vertically striped coat of arms; Aragon. On the obverse, if you also rotate it 180 degrees, you can just about see the curved edges of the wings of an eagle. From the colour alone you can observe that it isn't silver, and has to be billion. That leaves me to conclude that it is a billion denaro, from Messina in Sicilly, which at the time was under the control of the Aragonese kings. Looking at the shape of the eagle, yours seems to be minted under Alfonso V, 1442-1458. There is a fair bit of variety within this series, but this looks a little worn to figure out the details. You can just about see the NS of ALFONS right under the eagle, but I am having slight trouble with the rest of the inscription. Care to comment anyone? Could it possibly be a Jaime II? Sweet little medieval by the way!
