I have three Morgan silver dollars 1881 O mint 1882 Carson City ans 1889 in my 2017 Red Book I see these can be worth allot of money Depending on the grade. So my question is can anyone send coins in to be grades and which one of the good grading companies usually gives the best grades I know I was not happy with some of the grades I had done through NGC years ago.

That makes no sense. If a TPG is over generous with their grading, you can bet the prices paid for those over-graders will be much less than those graded by NGC and PCGS.

If the coins worthy it'll get the grade, if it's not it won't.
But yes anyone who is a member can submit to PCGS or NGC. The PCGS membership saves you money on the first submission with the 8 vouchers the NGC is just an even credit or a dollar short.

Grading is subjective, you don't have to agree with any 3rd party grading companies or the one that put the green bean sticker on the slab either. But the majority will usually go with what the grading company had decided.

This mentality has become ridiculous. The grade is the grade. If you really think that all that matters is the arbitrary grade assigned by a third party... Then I suppose numismatics is just dead and rotting.

Quote:Red Book prices are way out of line. Look here and ebay sold values http://www.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices/fmv.shtml The only values that matter are what people will pay. That means auction results. Check ebay completed auctions in the Advanced listings. And Heritage auction results. Quote: Then I suppose numismatics is just dead and rotting. If that's the case then philatelics must be mulch.

If there were nothing arbitrary about grading, all TPG's would always give the same grade every time. Nothing, in reality, could be further from the truth. In fact, the only consistency in grading is that it's completely arbitrary interpretation of the loosest of standards. If it weren't, this thread wouldn't be happening.

Well after seeing that you must pay to join the grading companies I think I will pass and if I ever sell them people can make up their own mind with pictures. Also see you are correct the Red Book has the price for these way up there compared to what I see them selling for now that I have looked at some places. So see no point in getting them graded they are in perfect condition though. I am 68 years old bought them when I was around 22 years old.

I can understand where Brucec is coming from. I've seen a bunch of slabbed coins lately that I thought were under graded. I'd change the question from which ones give the top grades to which ones grade most "accurately." That's an entire thread in and of itself.

Quote: I've seen a bunch of slabbed coins lately that I thought were under graded. They've been very tight. In my opinion too tight. A lot of submitters have said the same. There certainly is a disconnect between active users and ones who just judge from pictures thinking it tells the whole story.

"Which Company Usually Gives the Top Grades?" Perhaps it the TPGrader with the poorest reputation. That is why basement slabbers have been able to get some market share; they more often grade what is submitted to them more optimistically. That is the temptation they face to get more business. Learn to do your own grading instead, unless you are selling via ebay. You will need to know the grade accurately yourself, if you are buying coins raw.

ANACS doesn't require a membership to send in coins. They've been pretty accurate the few times I've used them. Have heard they're pretty good at grading Morgans.
