When they get sold at auction the auction house will typically put them in slabs. If an investor buys them they stay in the slab. If they are bought by another EACer they will often be cracked out. If they are sold privately they tend to stay raw.

 Conder knows --for a picture I have them out for smiles and photographs--but umm yep I'm keeping em in a safe hard plastic air tight and yes I can do a fast wisk out to have another look at the goodies

I was glad to see these coins still not part of the trendy slab scene. Thankfully there ares still enough collectors who have been around long enough to realize the TPGs are just a non-essential side-business taking advantage of (that's not a negative connotation) this hobby and the human (perceived) "need" for an "expert" opinion.

Thank you, @mdpmedia. It sounds like a "scholarly" wing of the coin collecting fraternity. I am with them in spirit. I love copper coins, and the older the better. Admittedly, most of my are British.
