This coin was struck with a very worn die heading towards it's end of life and usefulness. It's in a VLDS (Very Late Die State). That's why the letters are stretched. On the 5 of 1955, that's Die Deterioration Doubling.

That slightly raised ridge on the coins surface just inside the rim going around the cent and under the letters is another tell tale sign of a die that is worn. Your 1st,3rd,& 4rth pictures show it the best.
