yes, and there are clash marks in that area too and above the eagle's head.
do you think the obverse is cleaned? I didn't expect to see so many little scratches. they are not that prominent in hand but they are there.

Scratches don't look like cleaning. This is so much nicer looking than the sellers photos.
Solid 40, no distractions of note. I like the peripheral toning.

A nice piece that looks like a solid XF, perhaps a 45. My guess would be the toning is secondary but that's an observation, not a problem.

Thanks for all your help!  ICG graded this one AU50 and called it JR-3. None of the six 1831 bust dime varieties is rare. I was able to buy this one for $236.30. Don't know if that was a good price or not, but I don't see a lot of comps.
