So before posting I checked prices out for these badboys and I realize I can get a nice pretty graded shiny one for pretty cheap...

I have been flipping over thousands of LMCs...each time as hopeful as the previous that this one will have that Wide AM...

Well finally I have one!

Of course it looks like it was half submerged in excrement for an extended period of time...

A. Is it actually a Wide AM? "FG" looks closer and fancier that on Close AM...

B. What should I clean...I mean how should I conserve this piece...acetone? Looks pretty nice where it is not covered in verdigris or whatever this grossness is.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Zinc rot + some kind of dried up substance, perhaps glue, you will be able to get it cleaner by soaking it in Acetone, but the dark marks will remain, there are permanent due to exposed Zinc reaction.

After the acetone soak, if you are able to treat it with Verdi-Care I'd recommend it. Yes the 2000 are the most common of the WAM's but still great to find in the wild.

pure acetone, followed by Verdicare, followed by air tight. That zinc rot will eat it if it has the chance.

Now that you've found one it will be faster and easier to spot more.

I agree! A keeper until if and when a better one is found.

Make sure you get your acitone from the hardware store and not any kind of nail polish remover. Nail polish remover will ruin your coin cause it's never pure. Read the label make sure it's nothing but acitone.

Thank you all so much. Really appreciate. Learning so much just reading the forums. Hell, the only reason I knew there was a Wide AM variety was from perusing the forum :)

I thought I had a few prior but yes it is pretty obvious when you have a real one. I think I have ten that I put aside for closer magnification in the future...Pretty sure those can all go back into the wild ;)

Much obliged and I will post the results of my "conservation"...after I try it on a couple other more worthless cents.
