I suspect that echizento doesn't like the texture of the exposed surfaces, or the patination in between the details of the design.

The edge doesn't worry me as much.

I am unfamiliar with the design and thus I am unqualified to say much about the style, to help with authentication.
A good research on international auction record pictures may help, as regards style. Maybe only a few dies produced these coins originally.

This a case where the British Museum cabinet would come handy for comparative examination. I have been there amongst the Museum trays, so I know they would have enough specimens for comparative purposes.

If you get a chance to visit London, take this coin with you. Visit the Museum, and perhaps one of the major auction houses. If not, send a picture to Heritage, and hope they will answer. At least, they should have auction picture records.

I am fortunate enough to resort to Noble Numismatics in Sydney for this purpose. They are in the top five in the World for the size of their numismatic library.

Thank you so much friend.. I have been in contact with heritage auctions.. they referred me to westermark and Jenkins 143.5. That's were I found these 2 just like mine..same obverse and inverse.. same depiction and style.. they did tell me or the westermark and Jenkins I read, that it was only a couple die sets used.. all pics are in the first page..

Heritage also sent me a email stating once I send the coin out they would offer me 5-15,000$ but due to the flan defect it wouldn't be the largest side of it..

I don t like the general aspect of the coin , especially the reverse with the horses . A second problem for me is the die axis of the coin : 12 hours .All my South Italian and Sicilian coins have 3 or 6/7 h , except the incuse coins .A last problem : on the blue photo of the coin is written : forse argento = maybe silver and non attratta = non attracted . Can you show the whole text ? albert

I don't know the type, but I don't like the look of the OP's coin.

Worth sending to NGC to get certified, IMO.

Thank you.. what exactly would it cost to send this item to them? Being an ancient and potentially worth 5000 to 15000?

Thanks for the quick answer . It is the description of a coin by the owner who asks to identify .The answer is a lot of references on the web for this coin without an opinion about his coin . Checking the result , there is no die axis of 12 h .albert

Possibly due to the fact the coin is tilted and not lined up corectly.. normal ancient coins are set to 0-180 degrees I believe.. and allowed up to 10 percent diffrence.. I've read it's normal for alignment to be off up to 10 percent.. if it was exact it would be weird also right? Meaning some how the coin lined back up perfectly with no machine or holder..

How much does it cost all together for grade and authenticity for an ancient coin to NGC? Assuming the value of this coin is where heritage says it is if authentic, somewhere in the range of 5,000-15,000. And thank you in advance..

@david82, sorry but I don't know the answer to your question as I'm not typically in the practice of slabbing coins. You could consider posting it in a separate thread over in the TPG section of CCF:

http://goccf.com/f/84

and those folks should be able to help you with the particulars.
