It's a War Nickel. Between 1942-45, nickels were made of 35% silver to save nickel for the war effort. They are distinguished by the large mintmark over the dome. Nice!

Edit: it's a Jefferson nickel, by the way.

Sunshine - We're happy to offer opinions, but please title your threads correctly - this is not a "Lincoln nickel".

Fun find! The folks above have told you what you need to know. Not big value, especially considering the condition, but I keep every silver "Jefferson" nickel I find.

Please fix your title as it says "Lincoln Nickel". It's a Jefferson nickel. Anyway, a great find, but value is not much do to it's condition. Maybe a couple of dollars like 2.00 at most. That was a guess and not the actual value of your Nickel. Still a pretty awesome find though.

I love silver War Nickels. Can't get enough of them. And if it's got an S mint Mark, it's even better.
