Never seen one like this before. (9/19)

Nezak huns, AE drachm, clipped to about 1/6
Partial bust right and legend
Partial fire altar and attendant
10x15mm, 0.7g

Nezak-Huns---Ae-Clipped-Drachm-Obol-9/19

Interstingly, this might be from the same die as my first Nezak drachm:

Nezak-Huns---Ae-Clipped-Drachm-Obol-9/19

Based on the other coins in the lot, it is possible that this coin was clipped to ciculate as a ~1g unit in the Kashmir Smast. Alternately, it could have simply been clipped into 6 obols.

Fascinating concept. I wonder why in sixths as it would be pretty hard to get all pieces weighing the same.

An obol is 1/6 of a drachm, going back to the number of copper spits a person could fit in a clenched fist (drachma meaning "to grasp").

In this case, 0.7 x 6 = 4.2, the correct theoretical weight of an Attic drachm. Curious because Nezak drachms tend to weigh only about 3.5-3.7g... it indicates that rather than going by weight, it was probably understood that these small squares were to equal 1/6 of a big one. You know, fiat curremcy.
