I have an English decimal penny dated 1066!

The town of Battle in East Sussex grew up in the Middle Ages around an abbey founded by William the Conqueror on the site of the so-called Battle of Hastings, actually fought several miles inland from Hastings. The victory of the Normans changed the direction of English history forever.

In Battle there was a museum called "Yesterday's World" (it closed about 18 months ago), and that's where I smashed this penny. The '1066' logo with the arrow is used by tourist attractions in the area to promote what they call the '1066 Country'.

They are called a "pressed" or "elongated" coin. Yours looks nice.

Nice elongated. I can't say I collect them, but I do make one anywhere I visit that has the equipment. A great way to remember good times.

I also try to make one. Few months ago on way to Grand Canyon, I stopped by a gas station which had the machine. I cranked one out. Costs 50 cents and a penny.

BTW, is this illegal to use US penny to make one?

I have seen those machines in museums in Philadelphia. If it were illegal, I am sure that it would have been stopped by now.
