These things give me a headache trying to grade them with the strike issues. This is a pleasing example and I'd say 58. I don't think it's an ms coin.
Whether or not is worth it to send in for grading depends on what you paid for it. And how soon you want to unload it.

Take it this is YOUR key date, meaning for your set. a good example of a lightly circulated coin. Does look like it has had a cleaning tho, while ago? to re-tarnish. I would be afraid a TPG may not overlook that and Detail it and that would then really stink for the future of the coin in a dead man's coffin.

Nice strike, but definitely some wear on the lower neck, hair, etc. I'd say a strong AU-55, and I don't see any signs of cleaning. Very attractive coin, but I'm not sure I would spend the money to send it in.

It's a nice coin, no doubt. I give it an AU 55, the strands over the forehead on the face are worn together and the reverse shows a smooth shoulder on the eagle. It's definitely seen some wear, and there are bag marks on both sides, not bad, but they are present.

If it's been cleaned, that's another matter that will turn up in the grading. I would look at the population census for this coin in the AU 50-55 ranges and see how many of these are out there, then decide if slabbing it is worth the expense.

It's not going to come back Mint State, not going to happen. Possible cleaning is another risk, and the big one, to me. Some coins should stay in raw state for best return, this may be one of them. It's a nice coin for the average collector, if you want to market it to the MS slab buyers someday, you'll need a better coin, one that doesn't say 'possible old cleaning' on the face.

That's my take on it. I'd buy this coin, but as a raw AU only. If I'm going to pay the premium for a slabbed key, I'm going to pay more and get Mint State 63 as a minimum. Buy the coin, not the slab.

55 and I see no indication of dipping or cleaning. Exceptional photos makes it easy to see. You have to decide your minimum value for TPG submission, and which TPG.

But since you asked - no I wouldn't slab this one. It's a good raw seller as is.

I like AU-55 for it as well. If it were mine it would go into my Dansco album. The only reason I have slabbed coins at this point is because they were purchased that way, buying the coin not the plastic.

AU-55, maybe even 58. You could always submit it and crack it out if you didn't like the call.

I don't mean to seem pessimistic but I see AU50 as the ceiling for what looks like a very well-struck example. Very little letter flattening at the rim, strong hair detail, PEACE is fully-struck. This one was pretty well hammered, and shows a fair amount of honest wear.

Yes, slab it. It's a 1928.
