Hi! I'm new here so hopefully I'm doing this right. My husband brought this penny home and we searched for similar pieces online to no avail. Hoping you guys/girls can help!
1981 Lincoln Penny

It has a stamped/etched face to the right of Lincoln....

Also has something on the lower right of the memorial....

Your coin is counter stamped, there are numerous examples of different types and shapes out there, some very unique and done very crafty, yours was hammered onto the obverse quite harshly and has damaged the area directly behind it on the reverse. It's keeper.

By the way to the Community.

I can't get the image of the stamp large enough to figure out who that might be. Can you get a closeup of only the stamp. And here is the CCF Free Image Optimizer to help crop your images to eliminate all the blank space and make the actual image larger.

Rest in Peace

Here's yours enlarged but still don't recognize the likeness. Who died in '81? Here are some other "stamped" coins, the major one is the Kennedy-Lincoln from the "Strange but True
" fact card and the 50 US STates

The only Carter I'm seeing is the hair. It also looks a bit like Richard Boone (died in 1981). I really have no idea who that is.

Thanks everyone! Finally found a similar one on the Google and it's Pres. Jimmy Carter! This is our first counterstamped coin and we will be watching out for more. I did post the pictures in the suggested thread for counterstamps.

Glad you figured it out! There are may of them, find a couple a year CRHing, never seen that one, lotta Kennedys and States. Used to style my hair like that in 1980's, forgot "Jimma" looked like that, now I'm really embarrassed!
(but I had a big*** beard back then!)
