A television coin shows host made the comment that he believes only between 8,000 - 20,000 will be the totals for the 2008 W ASE error coin. He says that only a full shift and half or less was run before the error was found..

regards,
Leighton

Real estimates are in the 45,000 coin range. Still good but probably not as rare as the TV guy says:-) Page 1 of the May 12th edition of CoinWorld says that the Mint estimates it at 47,000. TV hype, is TV hype....

Thanks,
Bill

Yeah, first thing I thought was how they use figures very
loosely to fit their agenda. Those shopping channel coin
hawkers are slick! They always quote the lowest available
mintage figures, no matter how improbable, to make their
stuff seem rare. Then they will always use the highest, full
on retail, valuation that they can find to make their now
rare coin seem cheap by comparison. Even at 10x what
you would pay, just using common sense.

It's all about keeping your eye on one hand, while the other
hand is picking your pocket!

They are the only people I know that can make a "first year of issue" 90% silver, MS 60, 1964 Kennedy half sound like an 1804 dollar. One of the first things that happens when you buy a coin from TV is that you lose your hard earned money.

I get a kick out of how cheap they are selling the States quarters now that the program is coming to a close. They charged a small fortune for them when they were hyping them before. Some people just don't see the forest for the trees.

Either that or they are sleep walking when they order that stuff.

My parents and grandmother, not coin people, always
bought me this stuff as gifts. They spent a great deal
on me over the years, and I didn't have the heart to
tell them for a long time. Finally I couldn't take it
anymore. After all, they were taking advantage of my
kin with myself as the reason. I felt bad about it,
but not as bad as I felt with them buying this stuff.

That's because it is an artists rendition and not a photograph of an actual coin. If you notice the obverse is dated 2008, but is also a hub of 2007 design.
